A member of a family dedicated to the cultures of Eastern and Southern Asia. Among these there were two other bearers of the same name: grandfather PhDr.Zdeněk HRDLIČKA *1919 - diplomat and scholar and father PhDr.Zdeněk HRDLIČKA *1952 - conference interpreter (see family section).
Zdeněk HRDLIČKA is a member of family dedicated to cultures of Eastern and Southern Asia.
PhDr. Věnceslava Hrdličková, CSc. *1924. An associated professor at the Charles University in Prague. A scholar, translator and author focused mainly on China and Japan. Her bibliography includes more than 500 papers, monographs and books published since 1946 till present. Most of these were written in cooperation with her husband and published under their joint name V. and Z. Hrdlickovi. She is a founding member and an Honorable President of the Czech-Chinese Association (Cesko-cinska spolecnost), an Honorable President of the Czech-Japanese Association (Cesko-japonska spolecnost), a member of the Czech Literary Translators’ Guild (Obec překladatelů), a member of the Czech Writers’ Guild (Obec spisovatelů). She holds a number of domestic and international awards, such as the Order of the Rising Sun (2006)- a Japanese award presented by the Japanese Emperor; the František Palacký’s Award of Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (1994); Award of Masaryk’s Academy of Arts, Award of the President of Slovakia for Bonsai Awareness Promotion. PhDr. Zdeněk Hrdlička,*1919-1999. A diplomat, scholar, author translator, and interpreter. Former Ambassador of Czechoslovakia to Japan (1964-1969), chargé d´affaires at the Czechoslovak Embassy to Japan (1957-1961), Cultural attaché at the Czechoslovak Embassy to P.R.China(1950-1954). A founder of the New Orient Magazine (Nový orient 1945), an interpreter and organizer of the Chinese Peace Delegation led by the President of the Chinese Academy of Science Mr. GUO Muoruo, which provided the basis for later establishment of diplomatic relations between the Czechoslovak Socialistic Republic and the People’s Republic of China. Publicly opposed the 1968 occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Armies of the Warsaw Alliance on Japanese TV. As a consequence, he was persecuted during the 1970’s. He was prohibited from publishing and employment. In 1981 together with P. Herynek established the Bonsai Club Prague. Significantly contributed to the revival of the Czech-Chinese Association (Česko-čínská společnost). PhDr. Zdeněk Hrdlička,*1952. A professional interpreter of Japanese, Czech and English, a former AIIC member (Professional Conference Interpreters Worldwide ). Born in Beijing, P.R.China. The first conference interpreter of Japanese in Czechoslovakia, the official interpreter of the US Presidents George Bush Sr. and Bill Clinton to Czechoslovakia and later the Czech Republic. Ran his own private interpreting company the Babel Service, between 1988 and 2005. An author of several books and popular magazine series, e.g. “After growing up, I’ll become a Japanese”, “The Interpreter and Me”, and “Velorex and Me”. Translated a number of Japanese films . Ing. Stanislav Hrdlička,*1957. A stage design lecturer at the DAMU (The Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague); a director of the Kompars Ltd. stage designs manufacturer.
